About Us

Star Collaborative Dance Academy, formerly Heather Rivers Little Stars Performing Arts Academy,  is a dance academy for kids and teens ages 12mos through 18yrs old. We also offer recreational classes as well as a performing dance team. Our main objective is to perform for a cause. Every year we do a dance concert to benefit a certain charity. We pick a different charity each year to raise money for and the proceeds from our show goes to that charity.

Our performance team is made up primarily of child dancers as young as age 3 all the way through adults. Our dancers are professionally trained in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Break Dancing,  Contemporary, Tumbling, Theatre and Lyrical.

Having first met each other back in 2011, the dancers of Star Collaborative performed in the dance show "Firework." This show raised awareness and money for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma Cancer in honor of former "World of Warcraft" casting director Brigitte Burdine.

Unofficially, Star Collaborative started in 2013 but our first performance was canceled, so we never got to officially start our team. Two years later, we finally got our chance to perform! Performing on Saturday August 1st, 2015, Star Collaborative performed in "Dance with Your Heart: A Benefit Concert for Camp del Corazon." This show raised awareness of heart defects in children. The proceeds went to Camp del Corazon which is a camp designed for kids born with heart defects.

Currently, Star Collaborative is working on putting together future shows, stronger dancers, and more classes! Stay tuned for all the updates!

MR. JOE: CO-DIRECTOR/HIP-HOP/BREAK DANCING/POP AND LOCKING
Originally from London, Joe Chaplin started dancing at the age of 15 at Pineapple Performing Arts School where his passion for dance began. Throughout his seven years of involvement at PPAS, Joe transitioned from student to teacher after just three years. The next four years at PPAS he would spend putting his choreography skills into practice as he taught a wide variety of students. From the age of 18 to 22 Joe was chosen to be part of a selective dance troupe and given such opportunities to perform at events such as Top of the Pops, Blue Peter, The Mobo Awards, MTV’s My Sweet Sixteen, to name a few.
Joe Chaplin grew and developed a great deal as a performer and choreographer throughout his performance years. Not only did he gain experience teaching privately all over London, he had the rare opportunity to travel to the centre of the Mediterranean to the small island of Malta and teach at their top ranked performing arts school. His travel didn’t end there booking jobs in Spain, Portugal, Ireland (Westside – leading performing arts school, Dublin) and France (four months as a performing at Disney Land Paris, Choreographer for French band, Travel Agency).
Before transitioning to LA, Joe was employed with the London GLL gym chain, Extreme Dance, Twisters Performing Arts Company, various schools, colleges, and universities. The short time Joe Chaplin has been able to work in LA he has become part of the Sky High Dance team, a leading children’s afterschool company where kids of all ages can learn to dance after their studies. With his energy, friendliness, hard work ethic and reliability, Joe Chaplin has the ability to bring the best out of anyone who is willing to learn and can offer his unique style to the dance and performance industry.
